Academy side register victory in BrightonOur Under-18 side registered a fourth victory in succession this weekend, as they triumphed 3-0 on their visit to Brighton & Hove Albion.
It was another tough Saturday afternoon in which the youngsters had to work hard to secure the three points. The result keeps the Royals within two points of pace-setters Chelsea, who also have a game in hand at the top of the table.
It was a tight affair on an extremely windy day in Sussex, but the Royals went ahead after 25 minutes when captain Josh Barrett picked Daniel Akinwunmi’s run down the wing, and in turn the full-back delivered a cross round the back for midfielder Tyler Frost to convert.
Chances came at either end with the game on a knife-edge, but the second goal effectively sealed the game. It came 15 minutes from the final whistle – Barrett’s corner wasn’t cleared effectively, allowing centre-half Gabriel Osho to volley in a second ball.
The third goal, shortly before the referee blew for time, was scored by Josh Barrett who squeezed in from a tight angle to put a bit of extra gloss on the result.
After a home game against Tottenham Hotspur at Hogwood this coming weekend, attention will turn to the FA Youth Cup – we host Sheffield United at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday 15th December.
The Blades overcame Chesterfield in the previous round, so the young Royals will have to be on their game to secure passage to the next stage. You can come and lend your support to the Academy lads; click here for ticket details.
