Novakovich loaned to Robins

26 November 2015

Forward links up with Cheltenham

Reading’s 19-year-old forward Andrija Novakovich has today joined Vanarama National League outfit Cheltenham Town on loan until 2nd January.

The USA Under-20 international links up with the Robins ahead of their trip to Aldershot Town on Saturday.  He joins fellow Reading Under-21 player Rob Dickie at Whaddon Road – the defender has been on loan at Gary Johnson’s table-topping side since August.

Novakovich has made two first-team appearances for the Royals under Steve Clarke; he twice appeared from the bench towards the end of last season against Watford and Birmingham.  After being involved in the pre-season trip to Thailand, the forward was also named in the matchday squad for our first home game of the current season against Leeds.

The forward has also been a regular in the Under-21 squad this season, and found the net in wins against both Liverpool and Norwich at Madejski Stadium this term to help propel the Royals up to third in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table.

Manager Steve Clarke said: "Like most of our young players Andrija will benefit from a spell out on loan.  He has always shown a good level of ability since I came to the club last December but now needs the extra demands that will be put on him by competitive league football at Cheltenham Town.  We will be following Andrija's progress with interest and look forward to seeing how he handles this stage of his development."

Meanwhile Scottish Under-21 international Dominic Hyam (pictured) has also gone out on loan, and will represent Basingstoke Town until 2nd January.  The Vanarama National League South side visit Havant & Waterlooville this weekend in the FA Trophy, and will be looking to gather some points throughout a busy December to move away from the foot of the table.
