Forward links up with Priestfield clubRoyals striker Dominic Samuel has today joined Sky Bet League 1 outfit Gillingham on an emergency loan until December 10th.
The 21-year-old featured from the bench for the Royals’ first two games of the season, but sustained a knee injury in the Capital One Cup victory in Colchester. Since completing his rehab, he has twice featured for the Under-21s and grabbed an assist in the 2-0 victory against Norwich U21 at Madejski Stadium last month. Samuel also signed a new contract with the Royals in September, committing to the club until the summer of 2018.
The Royals Academy graduate has spent loan spells with Colchester and Dagenham in previous seasons, and last year he made a big impression by netting six goals in 12(+1) appearances on loan with Coventry as he helped the Midlands club successfully battle against the drop in League 1.
Dominic’s first appearance for the Gills could come as early as this weekend, as Bury are visitors at Priestfield on Saturday. A week later he could line up against his former loan club as Gillingham visit Coventry at the Ricoh Arena, and the Kent club also take on Rochdale and Shrewsbury before the end of the month.
Reading manager Steve Clarke said: “Dominic had a really good pre-season with the first team but picked up an injury early in the season. He worked very hard on his rehabilitation to get himself to a really good level of fitness, and now the next stage for him is to play competitive matches.
“He will get that opportunity at Gillingham, which will be good for Dominic, good for Gillingham and ultimately good for us.”
In addition, youngster Hammed Lawal has joined Hampton & Richmond Borough on loan until December 12th, and could feature in as many as seven Ryman League games in that period.
