Ahead of the game: Royals vs Charlton Athletic

17 October 2015

A preview of the Addicks clash at Madejski

Reading vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 17th October 2015, 3pm
Sky Bet Championship
Madejski Stadium

After two long weeks away from domestic action, we’re finally ready to go again in the Sky Bet Championship at Madejski Stadium.

And we’re desperate to pick up where we left off.  A 2-0 home win against Middlesbrough a fortnight ago cemented our position at third in the table and took us to a run of five wins in six games.

Tomorrow’s visitors Charlton are winless in the same period – but Guy Luzon’s charges have had the international break to put in hard yards at the training ground and will arrive with fresh impetus.

So we’re going to need your support once again as we look to record the right result against the Addicks on our patch.

Reading boss Steve Clarke: “We want to try to pick up where we left off – there’s no reason why we can’t.  But you always have to bear in mind that the opposition always have a say in the matter.  There are no easy games in the Championship.  Every game you go into, you see potential problems and potential difficulties, and this weekend is no exception.”

Royals midfielder Oliver Norwood: “It was back to business on Wednesday – I was back in and did the full session and it was great to be back amongst the lads.  The place is buzzing as well because of the results we’ve had of late, and long may that continue.”

Ali Al-Habsi is the subject of this week’s lead interview in ‘The Royal’, our matchday programme, who talks about his time away with Oman over the international break and his ambition to return to the big-time with Reading.  As usual we’ll also have updates from the chairman, the manager and the captain, and all you need to know about the Addicks.  Pick up your copy for just £3.

Rob Lewis will take charge of a Royals fixture for the very first time this weekend – twice he has overseen Charlton fixtures, both in League 1 campaigns, as the Addicks secured a 1-1 draw in Scunthorpe after drawing 2-2 in Bristol Rovers – Charlton duo Kyel Reid and Jose Semedo were both sent off that day.

Mark Pottage and Adrian Sannerude will run the two lines, while on fourth official duty we have Kevin Johnson.

We are home favourites to take the points according to Sky Bet, title partners of the Football League, and can be backed at 8/15 for the victory.  11/2 is the price for a Charlton win, while the draw is 3/1.

11/8 is the price offered by Sky Bet for Nick Blackman to take his tally for the season into double figures with a goal at any time, while Danny Williams is 9/4 to follow up his first Madejski Stadium goal with another against the Addicks.

Thanks to our Official Pouring Rights Partner, Heineken, Royals fans can enjoy a beverage at the brand new ‘Royals Rendezvous’ before the game.  Located outside the East Stand the new area is an ideal place to catch up and enjoy a drink with fellow fans before the action kicks off!

Exclusively for this match, there’s £1 off the first 500 pints poured in theFan Zone!  So arrive early and don’t miss out and help get the atmosphere going.  The Bowery District will be in attendance once again to provide some music.

From 1pm supporters can visit the Royals Fun Zone, just outside the North Stand, Gate 6.  Football based games will be available for young fans to put their skills to the test!  The Fun Zone will also be open at half-time for supporters to come and have fun.

And don’t forget to get your Golden Gamble ticket – the draw, sponsored by STAR, will be made at half-time.  Tickets can be purchased from designated sellers based around the stadium, for just £1.   There are two prizes up for grabs: a cash prize or an item of Reading FC merchandise, signed by the team!  All funds go to the Reading FC Community Trust.
