Order of Service for Saturday’s fixtureBefore Saturday’s home fixture against Brighton, we will be holding our annual Remembrance Service in memory of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
A service, led by Rev. Vernon Orr and Reading FC Chaplin Steve Prince, will take place at 1.45pm by the Remembrance Wall which is situated by Gate 1 at Madejski Stadium. Reading Chairman Sir John Madejski, Chairman of Reading FC Vice Presidents’ Club Eddie Dove, Mick Stocks of STAR, Carol Bucknell from Relatives of the Fallen Players, Oliver Pring of Young Royals and Mick Gooding of Reading FC Former Players’ Association) will each lay a wreath at the service.
The Reading Scottish Pipe Band are attending the fixture and will be performing at the Remembrance Service, outside the Megastore, and then pitch-side shortly before kick-off.
We will observe a minute’s silence for the fallen before kick-off, and the Royal British Legion will be holding a charity collection and selling poppies before the game.
The Royal British Legion’s Director of Fundraising, Charles Byrne, said: “The Legion’s role remains as contemporary and as vital as it has ever been supporting today’s generation of Service personnel, veterans, and their families whether living with an injury or illness, coping with bereavement or finding employment.
“We’re encouraging people to dig deep for this year’s Poppy Appeal to help us raise £41 million. The Legion’s work is entirely dependent on the public’s generous support – so please wear your poppy with pride, knowing that you are helping the Armed Forces community to live on.”
