Gaffer confirms Bond and Ferdinand return to training

Clarke gives fitness update on Royals squad

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Fulham, when the Royals kick off at 1.30pm against the Cottagers, Reading boss Steve Clarke confirmed that recent absentees Jonathan Bond and Anton Ferdinand should be rejoining the main group for full training.

He confirmed after the Rotherham clash that Hal Robson-Kanu and Stephen Quinn will both remain missing for the near future.  However with Matej Vydra returning from the bench against the Millers, followed by the news about Bond and Ferdinand, more options are returning for the manager.

“They are long-term absences from the team and the group – so I think that’s them dealt with,” admitted Clarke about Robson-Kanu and Quinn.  “We have to move on to the players that are fit and available for selection.

“Over the summer we tried to build a squad that we felt would be capable of competing and coping with the demands of the Championship.  I think so far we have proved that we have got that strength in depth in the squad.

“I haven’t yet got the final update from the physio, but I’m hoping that Jonathan Bond and Anton Ferdinand should join us today; I’m not sure about Aaron Tshibola because he had a small problem with his groin which caused him to miss out in midweek.

“But apart from the two long-term ones, we’re not looking too bad on the injury front.”
