Brentford to visit in youth cup competitionWe have today been drawn at home against Brentford in the Round of 32 in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Cup. The full draw can be viewed on the Premier League website by clicking here.
Further details relating to our tie are yet to be arranged, including venue, ticket prices and the precise date and kick-off time. These elements will be organised and announced in due course.
This is only the third instalment of the competition – we were crowned champions in the inaugural year in 2014, as Martin Kuhl’s youngsters – which included current first-team midfielder Aaron Tshibola – lifted the silverware by beating Man City 4-3 on aggregate over two legs. Last year, it was eventual runners-up Blackburn Rovers who eventually secured a place in the final at our expense, triumphing 2-1 after extra-time in Lancashire.
Brentford, who will become our first opponents this year in the knock-out competition, have already beaten West London rivals QPR 2-1 in the second qualifying round to reach this stage.
In the league itself, our boys currently lie third in the Under-21 Premier League table and just two points off Sunderland at the summit. Last time out against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a Rowan Liburd brace and a stoppage time free-kick from Liam Kelly helped the Royals to a 3-3 draw.
Our next Under-21 Premier League fixture in the league comes against Norwich on Monday 26th October at Madejski Stadium – we also host Chelsea and Man City at Madejski Stadium in the New Year. Our other home games take place at Adams Park in Wycombe, or behind closed doors at Hogwood. Click here to see our full Under-21 fixture list.
