Midfielder aiming to kick on with the Royals

Ex-Academy man Jack Stacey signed a new deal with the Royals on Monday morning, with his new contract keeping him at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2019.

The winger, who broke into Steve Clarke’s side last season after coming all the way through the youth ranks, spoke of his delight at earning a new deal and his ambitions of continuing his progression with the Royals.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Stacey.  “I’ve been at this club since I was nine years old, and to get another three-and-a-half years here is a dream come true for me – I’m really happy.

“I’ve been at the club for a long time, and hopefully I’ll be at the club a lot longer.  I’ve just come back from injury now, so I just want to get back into training and learn from the players that are doing so well at the moment, as well as showing the manager what I can do myself and hopefully continue the success of the club.

“The manager is really good with the young lads.  He speaks to us a lot, and it doesn’t matter what age you are – if you’re good enough, you’ll play at this club.  That’s a great factor in being here.

“There are some top players here at the moment – they have improved from last season and I really want to be a part of that.  Hopefully as a squad we can do something big this season.  Yesterday was my first full session back with the first team and the intensity and quality was really high.

“Everything is really positive at the moment.  It has been a massive improvement from last season and hopefully that continues until the end of this season.”
