Striker wants to make it four on the bounceRoyals attacker Nick Blackman wants the team to carry their impressive form into the Derby game on Tuesday evening, and believes that keeping the performance level going will be key to Reading coming away with three points and a fourth straight win.
“The games come thick and fast in the Championship so we’ve got to be ready for Derby,” said Blackman. “It’s only early September there’s a lot of games still to come, we’ve just got to stick together and keep producing these kind of performances.
“It was a good evening’s work and a fantastic performance against Ipswich, but now we’re fully focused on the Derby game and trying to win that one. We’re just concentrating on ourselves we’re all working really hard on the training ground and we’ve got to keep it going.”
Blackman is the Royals’ top scorer this season with five goals to his name, but the 25-year-old was eager to give credit to manager Steve Clarke for his goalscoring form. “The manager has been encouraging me to shoot a bit more and I’ve been taking that advice and luckily a few things have gone in for me,” explained the forward.
Equally, he has been impressed with what he has seen from the new summer signings so far and believes competition for places will be healthy for the squad over the coming months.
“I think it’s all about pushing each other, we all want the same thing which is Reading FC as a collective to be successful,” continued Blackman.
“The new players have brought talent – you see the names that we’ve signed like Matej Vydra who’s been there and done it a Championship level. We’ve got people like Ola John who has played for his national team at a high level and Lucas Piazon who has played in the Premier League for Chelsea. There are some great players there with a lot of technical ability and talent.”
