Clarke: Positives must continue

15 September 2015

Clarke looks on to this evening’s game

In this evening’s programme notes for the Derby fixture, Royals boss Steve Clarke stresses the importance of remaining balanced despite the excitement of a tremendous home result last time out against Ipswich.

“I flew up to the north west on Saturday afternoon to watch Derby’s game at Preston and watched them record their first win of the season.  Both teams will no doubt have a good understanding of each other’s threats this evening.  We ended last season with a good win at Derby and although it was nice to finish that way, a lot has changed at both clubs since then.

“For us, we come into tonight’s match on the back of an excellent win against Ipswich.  For me as manager, there were many things to be positive about, and I’m sure our supporters were very excited by some of the attacking play.  But my experience in the game tells me that we have to remain level headed, and most of all we need to build on the performance.  There is little point scoring five goals, getting three points and then not backing it up in the coming games.  The Championship is relentless and we were training on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with a sole focus on Derby County.”

Read Steve Clarke’s full pre-match thoughts in tonight’s issue of ‘The Royal’, which you can pick up around the ground for £3.

In addition, Chris Gunter explains what brought him close to tears on the pitch recently, Aaron Tshibola hits a landmark for the club, and captain Paul McShane tells us who’s to blame for his black eye!
