Clarke reveals Blackman chat

Royals boss discusses leading scoring’s form

Nick Blackman can have a great season if he keeps up his current level of performance, according to boss Steve Clarke.
Blackman is top scorer with five goals this season, and he also has five assists to his name.
Clarke spoke very highly of Nick’s form so far, saying, “I don’t think anyone can ever question Nick’s ability.  He does some things on the training pitch that take your breath away, and I’ve worked with some really top players so that’s saying something coming from me.
“He needs a break, he needs a run in the team, he needs confidence, and he’s getting that this season.  The fact he was still selected after all the changes, gave him a boost.  If he can continue his form like that, he can have a fantastic season.
“I had a good chat with him at the end of last season, and I said to him, why can’t you be scoring substantial goals in the Championship? If he continues like that, he can do.”
Friday night was a great evening for Royals fans, and the boss wants to build on the display.  “It’s important to get the feel-good factor back at home.  Fans have been frustrated with performances, and so have I.  Performances at the Madejski Stadium haven’t been good enough, but it’s good to put that all to bed.
“It was good to score five, for us it’s only three points but it’s great for the fans to go home with a lot of optimism.  We have to work hard to show this week in, week out.”
