New forward on his switch to Madejski StadiumMatej Vydra, who joined Reading from Watford on loan on transfer deadline day, is hopeful that he can provide some extra firepower upfront to help push the Royals towards the top of the table.
The Czech forward netted 36 league goals in two spells in the Championship with Watford – once against the Royals a 4-1 win for the Hornets at Vicarage Road last season, en route to the Premier League. And now he is hopeful that he can help to make 2015-16 a memorable one for the Royals, starting when Reading face Ipswich on Friday 11th September.
“In the first month it will be good to get to know these people within the club to help me, but I know the Championship – it’s a very hard league, but hopefully I will do well for Reading,” said Vydra. “I know it’s difficult to get promoted but I did it last season with Watford, so I want to do it again with Reading because it’s a great feeling. It will be a hard season but we have a very good team and if we can learn to work together and fight together I think we can do it.
“Hopefully I will score lots of goals for Reading and the fans will love me – although I scored against them last year! I’m best with the ball at my feet because I can score, get assists, I can run behind defenders and play between the lines so hopefully I can do well and help this team.
“I’ve come here to help the team with my goals, and I’d like to start that in the next league game. In England, football is all about supporters so hopefully a lot will come to the stadium and watch, because with them behind us we can play better football and enjoy it more. The most important things for me are the team and the supporters.”
Between spells with Watford, Vydra played Premier League football under the guidance of Steve Clarke at West Brom – and he is glad to be linking back up with his former manager at Madejski Stadium.
He added, “I’m very happy to complete this transfer because the last few weeks I haven’t been playing and wasn’t sure about my future but it is a great transfer for me, because I know the gaffer - so I’m very happy to be here with him again and hopefully we’ll have a good season.
“One of the reasons I chose Reading was the manager, and also the owners were very friendly and I liked them from the first moment I met them. I also know Jonathan Bond from Watford so those are the main reasons.
“I spent a good three years at Watford, but I don’t want to look back – I want to look forward and hopefully we will have a good year here and a strong finish.”
