Ahead of the game: Preparing for Preston

29 April 2016

A look ahead to our meeting with the Lilywhites

Reading vs Preston North End
Sky Bet Championship
Madejski Stadium
Saturday 30th April 2016, 3pm

With the final whistle on Saturday, the referee will be calling time on the Royals’ home campaign for 2015/16.

And let’s hope we sign off at Madejski Stadium with a bang.  Simon Grayson’s Preston will provide the opposition and they’ll be hoping to upset the applecart, as they have done for a lot of their opponents across the campaign.

The Lilywhites weren’t widely fancied when they were promoted as League 1’s play-off winners last year – but not only have they consolidated their position in the second tier, they could even secure themselves a top-half finish.

But we’ll be resolutely looking for the right result to finish the season on our patch – and we hope you’ll join us.

A reminder that following our recent discussions with supporters who raised their concerns over confusion caused by operating two bus services (F2 Shinfield Park and the Mereoak Park and Ride) from the same bus stop, the club took the decision to change the bus stop positions at Madejski Stadium for the Shinfield Park F2 and Stagecoach 951 – 954 bus services.  Click here for a full and up-to-date guide to matchday bus stops around Madejski Stadium.

We welcome Darren Deadman as our match official this weekend – his first appearance at Madejski Stadium this season.  We didn’t have much luck last time he was here, as Derby ran out 3-0 winners in October 2014.  He last fixture involving Preston came the following month, as the Lilywhites took a 2-0 win and three points away from their visit to Yeovil.

Running the line for Mr Deadman are his assistants Ryan Atkin and Ronald Ganfield while Darren England will be charged with operating the fourth official’s board.

Football League title partners Sky Bet have us down as 11/10 for the three points, making us favourites.  Preston can be backed at 13/5 to claim the win, while a draw is 9/4.

After notching three goals on his travels, Deniss Rakels is priced 2/1 to open his account at Madejski Stadium with a goal at any time.  And Danny Williams, who scored our 2015 Goal of the Year, is 7/2 to hit the net on his return from suspension.

Thanks to our Official Pouring Rights Partner, Heineken, Royals fans can enjoy a beverage at the ‘Royals Rendezvous’ before the game. Located outside the East Stand the new area is an ideal place to catch up and enjoy a drink with fellow fans before the action kicks off!

Don’t forget to get your Golden Gamble ticket – the draw, sponsored by STAR, will be made at half-time. Tickets can be purchased from designated sellers based around the stadium, for just £1. There are two prizes up for grabs: a cash prize or an item of Reading FC merchandise, signed by the team! All funds go to the Reading FC Community Trust.

On Saturday, we also mark 10 years to the day since we registered our 106th point of the campaign and set a points tally that has never been bettered, before or since.  So make sure you keep your eyes peeled for all the 106-related activity throughout the day!

We’ve launched our ‘R13’ range of items – make sure you check them out on the day in the Megastore!

We would like to strongly remind both home and visiting supporters that any fans who enter the field of play or any adjacent area unauthorised will be subjected to suspension and arrest.  Last season, an FA Appeal Board fined the club a total of £40,000 for misconduct in relation to supporter behaviour, charging us with failing to ensure no spectators or unauthorised persons were permitted to encroach onto the pitch when attending our FA Cup quarter-final replay against Bradford City at Madejski Stadium.  And heeding the Independent Regulatory Commission’s warning about our future conduct, we want to stress to all home and away supporters that entering the pitch is a criminal offence, and that foul and abusive language and behaviour is not tolerated at Madejski Stadium.

The best way to follow the game live is at Madejski Stadium in person, by getting behind the team!

But if you can’t make it to the match, you can listen to every pass, tackle and goal with live audio commentary on Reading FC PlayerHD for as little as £4.49 per month. Not only that, but our online subscription also allows you access to extended match highlights and exclusive interviews which you won’t see anywhere else.
