Brian: “The most important thing is a good performance”

Manager previews final fixture on home soil

The season is almost over – and come 5pm on Saturday, Madejski Stadium will have hosted its final competitive Reading fixture until the 2016/17 campaign starts anew in August.

For Royals boss Brian McDermott, he wants that the team can show performance levels – and I doing so, hopefully secure the right result against Simon Grayson's Preston – to send all the home supporters at Madejski Stadium into the summer break on a high note.

“I’m looking forward to the game, we want to try and get the right result,” Brian said.  “I know Simon Grayson really well – he’s a good man and a good manager, he’s done a good job everywhere he’s been.  He’s built a really difficult team to play against and they’ve got some good results this season.

“Simon is a really good bloke and knows what he’s doing, I went out with him a couple of times when I lived up north, so I know him well.

“I saw Preston play live the other day against Burnley who are a really good side and Preston gave a really good account of themselves.  So we know this weekend will be a tough one.

“They will be a really difficult team to play against, we know it’s a tough game but we will be ready. You know you have to make the most of what we’ve got, we have to make the most of that 90 minutes and at 5pm we come off and know we’ve given the fans absolutely everything.”

McDermott continued: “We want the results, nearly every game we’ve been involved in since I’ve been back has been one goal in it. You can tell we’re not far away from what we’re trying to do, we want to turn those 1-1 draws into 2-1 wins and turning round those defeats, that’s what we’ll be working on and doing.

“We needed to get a result at QPR and we got one and we need to perform at the weekend to make sure we get another one, but the most important thing is we put on a good performance in front of our own supporters on Saturday.”
