Hector and Piazon link up with Guus Hiddink’s sideReading Football Club can confirm that loanees Michael Hector and Lucas Piazon have this week returned to parent club Chelsea a week prior to the conclusion of their loan spells in Berkshire.
The Royals have kept in close contact with Chelsea since loan terms for the duo were signed at the end of last summer’s transfer window, discussing the pair’s progress, welfare and personal development throughout their respective spells at Madejski Stadium and both players and the two clubs agreed that a return to Stamford Bridge would best benefit Michael and Lucas in helping them to integrate back into the Chelsea squad ahead of the start of the 2016-17 Premier League season.
"I'd like to thank Chelsea Football Club for letting us have Lucas and Michael on loan this season," said manager Brian McDermott.
"Michael is a player I have known for a long time now and his is an amazing story. He has been at Reading for six years now and after so many loan spells with lower league teams, he has now found himself at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Another amazing story that football tends to throw at you."
A product of our Academy and a silver medallist at last summer’s Gold Cup with Jamaica, Hector made 30(+5) appearances for Reading this season, scoring his first league goal of the campaign two weeks ago in defeat at Elland Road, adding to his FA Cup Fifth Round finish against West Bromwich Albion last month. Hector signed a five-year deal to sign for Chelsea in the summer, but rejoined the Royals immediately to see the season out on loan in familiar surroundings at Madejski Stadium, taking his Reading appearances to 82(+11) in total.
22-year-old Brazilian midfielder Piazon, meanwhile, linked up with the Royals on loan at the end of August and made 21(+6) appearances in a Reading shirt across all competitions, scoring a total of five goals in the process.
We would like to thank both Michael and Lucas for their efforts throughout the course of this season and wish them luck in their future careers at Chelsea.
