Keown hands out awards as youngsters finish their programme

Reading defender Niall Keown was on hand to present the graduates of the Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme with their awards as they finished their 12-week itinerary at Madejski Stadium.

The Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme is run by Reading FC Community Trust, and is aimed at 16-25 years old who are currently unemployed, not training or any form education.  The programme has a superb track-record of helping young people to develop practical skills and gain valuable experiences across an exciting three-month course, which opens the doors to new opportunities in the world of work and beyond.

There is plenty of variety over the course of the 12 weeks.  Amongst other activities, the participants took part in a week-long residential in the New Forest, helped in community projects for the benefit of Reading, took part in two-week work placements with local businesses, and developed their CV and interview skills to help increase their employability.

And as a culmination for the programme, the ‘Team’ members delivered a final presentation in front of their fellow participants, their families, their course leaders and Royals defender Niall where they rounded up their experiences over the previous three months.

Niall was in attendance to watch the presentations and then to distribute their awards – as well as all of the practical skills which the participants acquired, they all also left with an NVQ qualification.

Alex McSweeney, Prince’s Trust Team Leader at Reading FC Community Trust, said: “Every one of the young people should be proud of what they have achieved over the past 12 weeks. Each young person have grown and developed as a team and as individual, whilst making a positive impact to ongoing community initiatives at a local soup kitchen and Beale Park.

“The Team programme aims to inspire and make a positive influence to young people’s lives, and when you look at the journey that these young people have been on these aims have been clearly met!”

The next Prince's Trust 'Team' programme begins on May 9th; if you are interested in taking part, contact Alex McSweeney, Prince’s Trust Team Leader, by ringing 0118 968 1067 or emailing amcsweeney@readingfc.co.uk.
