Back in January we launched the competition to #NameOurAle in conjunction with club partners West Berkshire Brewery and Waitrose. We were overwhelmed with entries, the majority of which were focused on our record breaking 106 season.
A decade ago, we set the record for the most points accrued in a Football League season as we romped to the Championship title. Never before, and never since, has any other team matched the 106 points that we gathered in the 2005/06 campaign.
Some of the other Royals oriented entries included: “Sir John’s”, “Royale”, “1871”, and “SJM”, but in the end the favourite was “106”.
Competition winners Amy and Mike both suggested “106” as the name of the ale and then proceeded to assist with designing the label and helping to brew the ale. Below are some highlights of their trip to the headquarters of West Berkshire Brewery.
