Young defender seals Portsmouth switch20-year-old defender Dominic Hyam has joined Portsmouth in a loan deal which will keep him at Fratton Park until Sunday 8th January 2017.
The Scotland Under-21 international last represented the Royals on Friday night, when he formed part of Martin Kuhl’s defence in a Premier League 2 win for our Under-23s against Manchester City at Madejski Stadium.
Following loan stints at Hemel Hempstead and Basingstoke Town, Hyam made his EFL debut when he joined League Two strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge on loan for the second half of the Daggers’ 2015-16 campaign.
At Victoria Road, Hyam made 16 starts in total but John Still’s side couldn’t avoid relegation, finishing in 23rd position at the end of last season.
Dom, however, is back playing his football on loan in League Two once more and will now look to impress on the south coast, with a Pompey outfit who suffered play-off heartache last season – narrowly losing a two-legged semi-final against Plymouth Argyle.
Hyam signed his loan papers whilst north of the border with his nation's under-21 side as he prepares to face Macedonia at Tynecastle on Thursday before an away clash with the Ukraine next Tuesday.
He will then link up with Paul Cook’s men - who include former Royals striker Noel Hunt amongst their ranks and who currently sit in eighth place in the league. We wish Dom the best of luck during his spell with Portsmouth - a side we are due to meet in the Checkatrade Trophy in October!
Hyam became the third Academy graduate to make a loan move on deadline day, following Jack Stacey's move to Exeter City and Tariqe Fosu's loan to Colchester United.
