Ahead of the game: A Berks v Bucks battle in the cup

23 August 2016

Our preview of our meeting with the Dons

A little over 50 miles separates Reading from Milton Keynes, as the crow flies.  And the Royals are aiming to make the journey home a miserable one for MK Dons after Tuesday night’s meeting in the EFL Cup.

The two teams are battling out for a place in the third round – which is when the seven Premier League teams that are competing in Europe this season are entering.

The Dons, who beat Manchester United 4-0 at this stage two seasons ago (en route to round four, their best performance in their short history) are tasked with providing the opposition tonight.

Jaap’s charges will have to be on their game though – Karl Robinson’s side have won all three games on their travels so far this term, which included their first round win at Newport.  Whether it’s decided in 90 minutes, in an additional 30, or by spot-kicks… there will be a winner on the night.

Tickets are cheaper if you buy up to three hours before kick-off – you can get Adults tickets for £7, Concessions for £5 and 17 & Under for £1!  You can also buy on the evening of the game at matchday rates.

Only the East and Lower West Stands are open for this fixture and all seating is unreserved.

For more information about ticket prices and how to purchase, click here.

On a matchday, only very limited overflow parking is available at the stadium for £8 - we advise supporters to consider one of our off-site car parks. Non-Permit holders enter the Stadium via Northern Way only and Permit holders enter via Hurst Way and Northern Way.

If you have a child under the age of 12 in your car, you will be eligible to park in our special family parking area for £8 - spaces are available in advance by phoning the Ticket Office on 0118 968 1313 or visiting the Ticket Office in person. If purchasing in advance, parking permits will be posted or available for collection from the Main Ticket Office prior to matchday.

Charles Breakspear refereed an EFL Cup first round match this season, which saw League 2 Stevenage knock out Championship side Ipswich in Suffolk.  He also took charge of our most recent meeting with MK Dons – which resulted in a 1-0 defeat on our travels last season - and is in the middle on Tuesday again.

He will be assisted by linesmen Mark Derrien and Michael Webb for this tie, with Constantine Hatzidakis taking place as the fourth official.

EFL title partners Sky Bet place us as 4/11 favourites to take the win in 90 minutes; 15/2 is the price in our League 1 opponents to get the win in normal time, and 19/5 is price on the game going to extra-time.

John Swift has already bagged twice competitively at Madejski Stadium, and he’s 11/4 to do the same again at any time.  You can also back Joseph Mendes to score his first in the blue and white hoops at 2/1.

We are very pleased to have extended our kit discount for Season Ticket holders!  Adults and 65 & Over ticket holders can save £10 on new replica shirts, which 18-24 and 17 & Under Season Ticket holders get £5 off.

Young supporters can visit the Royals Fun Zone, just outside the Eamonn Dolan Stand, Gate 6.  Football based games will be available for young fans to put their skills to the test!  The Fun Zone will also be open at half-time for supporters to come and have fun.

And thanks to our Official Pouring Rights Partner, Heineken, Royals fans can enjoy a beverage at the ‘Royals Rendezvous’ before the game.  Located outside the East Stand, the area is an ideal place to catch up and enjoy a drink with fellow fans before the action kicks off!

Don’t forget to get your Golden Gamble ticket – the draw, sponsored by STAR, will be made at half-time.  Tickets can be purchased from designated sellers based around the stadium, for just £1.   There are two prizes up for grabs: a cash prize or an item of Reading FC merchandise, signed by the team!  All funds go to the Reading FC Community Trust.
