All you need to know before our cup tie...We’ve waited all summer for football, and now it’s coming thick and fast. After Saturday’s opener against Preston North End, we’re back at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday in the newly-titled EFL Cup, with Plymouth Argyle providing the opposition.
In their last winner-takes-all fixture, the Pilgrims were undone by AFC Wimbledon. Royals forward Craig Tanner was in the squad that day as an Argyle loanee; the Dons were League 2 play-off victors at the final whistle at Wembley.
It is just the fourth time that these two sides have been drawn against each other in knock-out competition – the previous three all came in the FA Cup. The first, back in 1920 and before we had even joined the Football League, ended in a 2-0 victory to Plymouth at Home Park in the first round, while the second followed in 1968 when the Royals were 1-0 winners at home in the first round – and then followed up at the next stage with a win over their Devon rivals Plymouth!
Most recently, Argyle secured a place in the fourth round at our expense courtesy of a replay, after forcing a draw in from their third-round visit to Madejski Stadium. So it’ll be our first occasion in this competition with the Pilgrims, and Jaap Stam’s first ever involvement in the competition. Make sure you’re here for it!
Tickets are cheaper if you buy up to three hours before kick-off – you can get Adults tickets for £7, Concessions for £5 and 17 & Under for £1! You can also buy on the evening of the game at matchday rates.
Only the East and Lower West Stands are open for this fixture and all seating is unreserved.

On a matchday, only very limited overflow parking is available at the stadium for £8 - we advise supporters to consider one of our off-site car parks. Non-Permit holders enter the Stadium via Northern Way only and Permit holders enter via Hurst Way and Northern Way.
If you have a child under the age of 12 in your car, you will be eligible to park in our special family parking area for £8 - spaces are available in advance by phoning the Ticket Office on 0118 968 1313 or visiting the Ticket Office in person. If purchasing in advance, parking permits will be posted or available for collection from the Main Ticket Office prior to matchday.

On the whistle on Tuesday evening will be Simon Hooper – he was here as recently as March for our 2-2 draw with Fulham. His only previous game so far this season was the Championship’s Friday-night opener at Craven Cottage, when Newcastle fell to a 1-0 defeat against the West London club.
Assistant referees for the evening will be Adam Crysell and Robert Hyde, while fourth official duty will be taken up by Stephen Finch.
Following the launch of our brand new 2016/17 kit last week, Season Ticket holders will be eligible for a discount on the first shirt order they place in store. £10 will be taken off the new kit for every Adult or ‘65 & Over’ Season Ticket holder - in the Megastore only.
The Season Ticket holder discount is only available for those who visit the Megastore in person – it is not available online. However, the offer will run for two weeks, meaning you can visit the Megastore to buy your shirt and claim your discount at any time up until 10.30pm next Tuesday 9th August 2016 – after the final whistle following our EFL Cup clash against Plymouth Argyle here at Madejski Stadium.
We have a revamped concourse menu in place for the 2016-17 season, details of which can be found by clicking here.

EFL title sponsors Sky Bet are offering odds of 4/6 for a Reading win in 90 minutes; visitors Argyle are 4/1 to secure passage, while you can get odds of 11/4 for the game to head into extra-time.
John Swift, who opened the Royals’ account for 2016/17, is 12/1 to get the scoring underway at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday, and Roy Beerens is 5/2 to net his first in our blue and white hoops at any time.
Young supporters can visit the Royals Fun Zone, just outside the Eamonn Dolan Stand, Gate 6. Football based games will be available for young fans to put their skills to the test! The Fun Zone will also be open at half-time for supporters to come and have fun.
