Gaffer happy to finally land Moore signature

Stam on arrival of centre-half

Reading manager Jaap Stam was delighted to finally be able to net transfer target Liam Moore, who was officially announced as a Royals player at lunchtime on Saturday after weeks of speculation.

The centre-half took part in a training session with some of his new teammates after the Royals’ 2-2 draw with Brighton on Saturday – even though he links up with the squad a fortnight into the new campaign, gaffer Stam is confident that he will settle quickly and add value to Reading.

“I am very happy – as we have spoken about, it has dragged on for weeks now,” said the manager after capturing the signature of the centre-half.  “He is the type of player we need in the squad.  He has quality, he has pace, he is good on the ball.  So I’m very happy that we have got him into our squad.

“The only thing now is for him to get used to everybody here and used to our system, but I am confident that is going to work out well.

“It is always good to work with young players – not only do we want to make the team better, but we also want to develop the players.

“If you work with young, talented players you can help them out and make them a lot stronger.  They can have big value for the team, and also for the club.”
