Royals to host MK Dons in EFL Cup second round...

10 August 2016

Tie arranged for the next stage

Wednesday evening’s EFL Cup second-round draw has handed us a home tie at Madejski Stadium against MK Dons for the Royals.

We can confirm that the tie will take place on Tuesday 23rd August, kicking off at 8pm under the floodlights at Madejski Stadium.

The draw was due to be conducted live on Sky Sports News HQ following the conclusion of Aston Villa’s defeat to Luton at Kenilworth Road in front of the cameras – but we had a little longer to wait until extra-time was concluded in the other fixtures on the night.

And then Iain Dowie picked out our number to pair us against Karl Robinson's outfit, with a place in the third round on offer for the victor later this month.

Goals from Joey van den Berg and Roy Beerens earned us our place at this stage, as Plymouth Argyle were swept aside at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday evening.  Meanwhile the Dons, who were relegated to League 1 in the summer, needed a last-gasp goal by Dean Bowditch to prevent extra-time in their trip to Newport County AFC in their first-round fixture.

All second-round ties are due to take place on the week commencing Monday 22nd August.  Ticket details for our fixture will all be arranged and announced in due course.
