Stunning new artwork in place for grand openingToday, the Eamonn Dolan Stand was adorned with a striking new image of the man himself.
Artwork was designed and a huge graphic was created, poignantly depicting a beautiful image of Eamonn made up of 400 smaller images of the 32 players who came through our Academy system to represent the first team during the 12 years Dolan spent as Academy Manager at Madejski Stadium.
The photo itself was taken when Eamonn was in charge of our first team, standing in the opposite dugout to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford as the Royals took on Manchester United in the Premier League three and a half years ago.
And the image, 6.8m in height and 7.35m wide, has been put in place throughout the course of today. The image was designed by Cream Design and produced by VGL, two companies who are long-standing supporters of the club and therefore fully understand the impact Eamonn made at Madejski Stadium.
Amongst the 32 players who come together to form the 50sqm Eamonn Dolan Stand artwork are some famous names in Royals history and some wonderful players – all of them testament to the success Eamonn had during his career at Reading.

The Eamonn Dolan Stand will be officially opened on Saturday at 1.30pm as the turnstiles open for the first time in 2016-17.
Co-Chairman Sir John Madejski will join members of Eamonn’s family to unveil a plaque, dedicating one side of our stadium to a man who dedicated so much time and hard work to Reading Football Club.
This plaque, respectfully donated by Miles & Daughters, is made of black granite and is inscribed in 22 carat gold leaf with these words - The Eamonn Dolan Stand. Opened on Saturday 6th August 2016. Named in honour of Eamonn Dolan. Coach, Manager, Believer. “A true Royal”. One of our own, his legacy lives on forever…
Inside the bowl, as soon as the turnstiles open, we will be featuring footage of some of Eamonn's greatest achievements whilst at Reading Football Club - including our dramatic FA Youth Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool and the two-legged U21s' victory against Manchester City which saw us lift the Premier League Cup at Madejski Stadium.
And we ask that both home and away supporters take to their seats just before 2.45pm to watch a fitting pre-match video compilation dedicated to Eamonn’s life and career.
Jaap Stam’s side will wear black armbands in memory of a great man and Preston have also confirmed that they will sport black armbands in Eamonn's memory.
Around the ground, volunteers will be collecting for ‘Action on Bladder Cancer’, while the matchday programme will include just a cross-section of the hundreds of tributes and messages left in the book of condolence just outside main reception here at Madejski Stadium over the last couple of months.
And we would also like to invite both home and away fans to join us in a minute’s applause in Eamonn’s honour before kick-off.
Be here to celebrate Eamonn! He was a man who shared your passion for this football club and who inspired all he met.
