Midfield man previews visit to Craven Cottage“We’ve got every confidence that we can go into every game and get a result,” said Reading midfield man George Evans, ahead of this weekend’s visit to Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship – where the Royals will be seek out a sixth straight win.
“We know that Fulham will be a tough game – they play some good football and they have got some good players there. But the confidence is high and we believe we can get the three points.
“Some of their players are very good and we’ve been working hard this week to see how we can expose them. I don’t think that this is a dressing room that will get complacent – it’s a team that really wants to graft and work hard and keep progressing. It’s a willing dressing room.
“There are a lot of players that are ready to step up and they’re working hard on that training pitch to try and get into that starting XI, and those that are in there want to keep their places. We’ve got a squad of players that are really working hard to get their spot in the team.
“It has been a good season so far. Obviously it’s a very happy dressing room at the moment because we’re winning football games, but we want to take each game as it comes – so we’re looking forward to Fulham now and aiming to get the three points there.”
Evans also paid tribute to the job that manager Jaap Stam has been doing since his arrival – including the attention to the final details which he believes has pushed his game on to the next level.
“On a personal note, it has been brilliant for me,” he continued. “I worked hard over the summer and tried to show the gaffer what I can do, and he’s put a lot of trust in me and really progressed me. I think the way they want to play has suited me down to a tee – it suits my game a lot.
“It’s a great set of lads and the coaching staff have been unbelievable. We’ve got a big group of lads that are willing to work really hard and put a lot of effort in on the training ground. We’re a tight-knit bunch and it’s a good laugh every day, and a happy dressing room at the moment.
“Since the first day we came in with the manager we have had a way of playing – the lads have really bought into that. We had a tricky week at Wolves and Newcastle where it didn’t go to plan, but we stuck by our guns and we’ve really worked hard on the training pitch.
“I can only put our form down to the hard work we’ve put in out there. There are endless hours on the training pitch which the fans won’t see, but everyone is working really hard behind the scenes and there is a lot of attention to detail from the management staff on how to improve. We’re always looking to improve – we’re never settled at where we’re at.
“We work on a lot of clips with the coaching staff and the gaffer – we’re looking to improve each game and we’re looking at things that we did well and at ways that we can do better.
“I think with attention to detail, we’ve put a lot of things right in the past few games – we’ve put in a lot of work on the training pitch which is showing on matchdays, and that’s getting us good results.”
