Jaap heading back to Old Trafford in the FA Cup!

Royals to travel to Old Trafford

Manager Jaap Stam returns to Old Trafford as opposition boss after we drew Manchester United away in the third round of the FA Cup!

Our gaffer was a player with the Red Devils when they won the trophy back in 1999 – and now he returns as the Royals’ manager.

The draw took place at BT Tower in London, and was broadcast live on BT Sport 1 and BBC 2.

And after Steven Gerrard and Ian Wright drew the home and away numbers respectively from the pot, the Royals were paired against United – which makes a nice change from our annual trip to Huddersfield!

Few teams can boast a record in the competition quite like United – they lifted their 12th trophy as recently as last season, when they beat Crystal Palace at Wembley.

The fixture is set to take place on the weekend between Friday 6th and Monday 9th January 2017 – although the exact date and time of kick-off will be confirmed in due course, as will ticketing arrangements.

Including replays, the two teams have met in the competition on 13 previous occasions – though Reading have only progressed once, back in 1927, after a second replay!

There have already been a few upsets in the competition already – as there is every year – and our challenge is to safely navigate our way past one of football’s giants to ensure we’re in the hat in round four.
