Jaap says taking chances at Blackburn will be key

The gaffer looks ahead to Saturday's trip to Ewood Park

The gaffer Jaap Stam believes putting away their chances this coming weekend is key as the Royals look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Blackburn on Saturday.

Our defeat at Leeds in midweek was only the second time in three months that the Royals had drawn a blank in the Championship - and the gaffer knows that the game would have had a different complexion if they had made their openings count.

“We need to make sure when we get chances that we finish them off against Blackburn,” said Stam. “We’re still in the top six, we’re doing well and we’re looking at every game as it comes.

“We want to look to pick up a result in every game; sometimes that doesn’t happen, but we know when we go to Blackburn we will give it our best shot and we will see what happens.”

The Royals boss is preparing his side for another tough battle in the North on Saturday against a Blackburn side who have had a mixed bag of results in recent weeks. Rovers find themselves in the relegation zone following their narrow defeat at the hands of high flying Brighton on Tuesday night, but despite their lowly league position Jaap says the Royals will not be taking their opposition lightly.

“In the last couple of weeks they’ve done well and they’ve got some results,” said the manager. “Of course a club like that needs to have those results.

“We’re high up in the table so we’ve got to go there looking for a result and focus on our own game and way of playing to see what we can do to hurt them and win that game.

“It’s all about your own performance away from home,” he continued. “If you get those chances can you take them, finish them off and score that goal. Every game we approach looking to win the game.”
