Man City visit Madejski Stadium on ThursdayReading U18 vs Man City U18
FA Youth Cup, third round
Thursday 15th December, 7pm
After Wednesday’s Under-23 fixture against Hertha Berlin, it will be our Under-18 squad who will take to the Madejski Stadium turf this Thursday for their FA Youth Cup third round tie against last year’s runners-up Man City.
The fixture pits two of the top youth sides in the country against each other; Reading sit second in the U18 Premier League South table, while City top the North division.
If the two teams can both secure top-four spots in their divisions, they will meet in the Elite League competition later in 2017 as the best eight sides in the country go for league glory.
But first comes the Youth Cup – and one way or another, a winner will be decided on the night. That could include extra-time and penalties, if necessary.
Indeed, an added 30 minutes was needed last year as they Royals squeezed past Sheffield United. The Royals trailed going into the final throes, but Gabriel Osho’s late, late goal took the game to an added 30 minutes, in which Josh Barrett and Danny Loader each secured passed to round four.
Fulham and Wolves were seen off in the next two stages, before Reading were eventually defeated 2-1 at Stamford Bridge by eventual champions Chelsea.
So we’ll need to get past the Citizens if we want to go on another run – the fourth round draw has paired the winner of this fixture against the victory between Crystal Palace and Liverpool, who meet on Saturday.
All supporters will be seated in the East Stand, and entry costs just £3 Adults and £1 Concessions (65 & Over and 17 & Under) - head to the Ticket Office, or book in advance online or by phone to get a Member card or Season Ticket card loaded. Parking is free at Madejski Stadium.
Come along and lend your support to our future generation on Thursday evening!
