Royals or Saints to visit Yeovil in Checkatrade Trophy

8 December 2016

Third round draw sets up Huish Park fixture

Reading’s youngsters could visit Yeovil Town at Huish Park in the third round of the Checkatrade Trophy – but first they will need to negotiate their way past their Southampton counterparts at St Mary’s.

The draw was conducted live on Sky Sports News on Thursday morning, and it could potentially pit us against the Glovers for the second time this season.

Reading, under the tutelage of Under-23 boss Martin Kuhl, had already qualified for the next stage when Yeovil visited Madejski Stadium in the final of the round-robin matches.  Goals from Tom Eaves and Francois Zoko earned the visitors a 2-0 win and top spot in the group.

We’re paired against another of the Category One academies in round two – Saints topped their group ahead of Crawley, Cheltenham and Colchester and will now host our youngsters in Hampshire on Wednesday 21st December.

Yeovil have already completed their second-round match – they swept aside League 1 side MK Dons 4-1 to take a place in the final 16.

Further details will be arranged and announced in due course.
