Stam shortlisted for Manager of the Month!

8 December 2016

Gaffer nominated for November award

After a perfect run of results in November, Royals boss Jaap Stam has been shortlisted for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award!

The Dutchman steered us to a maximum return from each of our three fixtures throughout the month, elevating us to our current position of third in the division.

Our opening fixture was a 3-0 victory away at Wigan Athletic, where two goals in the opening five minutes from Garath McCleary fired us into an early lead as we ran out 3-0 winners.

That scoreline was repeated at Madejski Stadium after we returned from the international break as Burton Albion were swept aside, before we closed the month with a 2-1 win against Bristol City on home turf.

As always, there is stiff competition from some seasoned Championship managers.  Steve McClaren is on the four-man shortlist, after he also led Derby to wins in all three of their fixtures to push the Rams back towards the top end of the table.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is another nominee, as seven points from nine available helped to steer the Midlands club back into the top half of the table.  Blackburn boss Owen Coyle completes the shortlist, with a win against Newcastle being the most noteworthy result as they clambered out of the relegation places.

The judging panel for the award comprises former Ipswich Town manager George Burley, Sky Sports’ EFL League expert Don Goodman; EFL Marketing Director Drew Barrand, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.  The announcement will be made on Friday.
