Ahead of the game: Previewing our meeting with the Millers

23 February 2016

A look ahead to this evening's Rotherham clash

Reading vs Rotherham United
Sky Bet Championship
Madejski Stadium
Tuesday 23rd February, 8pm

It’s TFI Tuesday!  Which means we’re expecting a good midweek crowd at Madejski Stadium, and hopefully a terrific result to match.

Meetings with the Millers have never been a particularly regular fixture on the calendar – our midweek win against the South Yorkshire side last season was the first time we had hosted in over a decade, and Jamie Mackie’s opener and a Simon Cox double fired us to a 3-0 win.

Berkshire hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Millers – on five visits to Madejski Stadium, Rotherham have failed to score a single goal… their only point came courtesy of a 0-0 draw in 2003, when Marcus Hahnemann and Mike Pollitt were both unbeaten.

And hopefully we can repeat the feat of the other four occasions by taking a win against a Rotherham side that are battling against the drop.

If you are travelling via Basingstoke Road, Whitley Wood Lane, Imperial Way Roundabout (near Lidl Supermarket), there is a warning of road works for the next 2 weeks with 4-way traffic lights which will cause delays in the area, and so supporters should allow extra time if parking in the Imperial Way (Worton Grange) car park area.

The Worton Grange parking facility remains available for this fixture, but will not be available for our future matches from March onwards.  Click here for more information.

Kevin Johnson is the arbiter for our meeting with the Millers – it is the first time he has refereed a Reading match (or Rotherham, for that matter), and just his fifth time in charge of a Championship outing.

Guy Stretton and Andrew Laver are the assistants and fourth official for the evening is Gavin Ward.

The Royals are odds-on home favourites at 8/11 for a win with Football League title partners Sky Bet, while the Millers are 4/1 outsiders and a draw is priced 13/5.

Yann Kermorgant is 7/4 to net his first Reading goal at any time during the evening, while Deniss Rakels is 3/1 to score as part of a Royals win.

Don't forget - it's your last chance to take advantage of 25% off home, away and goalkeeper kits at the Madejski Stadium Megastore!  Click here for more information.

Thanks to our Official Pouring Rights Partner, Heineken, Royals fans can enjoy a beverage at the ‘Royals Rendezvous’ before the game.  Located outside the East Stand the new area is an ideal place to catch up and enjoy a drink with fellow fans before the action kicks off!

And the first 500 pints bought at Royals Rendezvous will be half-price - make sure you don't miss out!

Unfortunately the Royals Fun Zone will not be in operation at this fixture.

Don’t forget to get your Golden Gamble ticket – the draw, sponsored by STAR, will be made at half-time.  Tickets can be purchased from designated sellers based around the stadium, for just £1.  There are two prizes up for grabs: a cash prize or an item of Reading FC merchandise, signed by the team!  All funds go to the Reading FC Community Trust.

We will also be welcoming some musical performers to the match - a Samba Band will be outside the Megastore from 6pm, while a Steel Band will be at the Fan Zone from 6pm.
