Coops relishing the prospect of a battle with the Baggies

Centre-half previews Madejski Stadium cup clash

Royals defender Jake Cooper is looking forward to this Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie with Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion side and the physical encounter in prospect.

The ex-Academy defender’s first appearance of the season was against another Premier League opponent, when Everton visited in the Capital One Cup in September.  And now Cooper has played every minute of each of the last 10 Reading fixtures – so he is looking forward to the next challenge on offer, with a place in the final eight at stake.

“We’ve played many physical teams this year and we feel that we can deal with that,” Cooper said.  “Saturday will be another test that we are happy to take on.  We’ll be doing everything we can to try to win the game.

“I think we can go in with real confidence off the back of the last few results – we really feel that we can do well and show how good we are against the top Premier League sides.  So we’re really looking forward to it.

“We always feel like we can beat any team at Madejski Stadium – and that has shown over the last few weeks.  We’ll hopefully take that into Saturday, and with a Premier League side coming here we can really show how good we can be.

“Whoever we play, we’re always expecting a physical battle – especially in the league we’re in.  We thoroughly enjoyed the battle last Saturday [against Burnley] so we’re looking to take that into this forthcoming Saturday.  We feel we can deal with any battle that comes our way.

“We would love to keep this cup run going, and we try to win every game we can.  So we’re going in feeling that we can beat West Brom and make the quarter-final – that’s what we intend to do.”
