Obita, Hector and Robson-Kanu visit half term Soccer Schools

19 February 2016

Easter Soccer School dates released, sign up now!

First team players Jordan Obita, Michael Hector and Hal Robson-Kanu took time out this week to drop in and surprise the 6–14 year olds participating in the Reading FC Community Trust half-term Soccer Schools.

And last week, our full-back Andrew Taylor went to Edgbarrow School in Crowthorne to meet some of the pupils who were taking part in an after school football session!

There were two sessions this week; the first on Tuesday at the indoor training facility at Madejski Stadium and the second on Wednesday at Goals in Woodley.  Both sessions had more than 120 young Royals participating in training drills and small games. At the Goals event there were also goalkeepers only and girls only sessions.

At the indoor training facility, Obita and Hector participated as over-age representatives in an Under-6s match, with Obita providing the assist for the winning goal!  They then handed out prizes, birthday cards and posed for photos with the young fans.  An interesting Q&A followed with the players facing a barrage of questions about their toughest opponent, favourite goal and a tough one asking whether they would rather be injured but win the World Cup or play but lose in the final? Great question!

Hal Robson-Kanu attended the Soccer School at Goals in Woodley and said, “It’s good to see the young boys and girls having a kick around and being motivated to come out, despite the weather!

“The club has always done a great job in the community – without fans, football is nothing.  The club has always had great support, and we want to give that back.”

Robson-Kanu also faced with a variety of questions, including many about his international exploits, playing alongside Gareth Bale as well as some tough questions about managers!

Discussing the Q&A, Hal added: “I had some really good questions from the kids.  It shows that they are really enjoying their football.  It’s great to see in the community and long may it continue!”
