Ahead of the game: Royals vs Sheffield Wednesday

22 January 2016

A preview of the Owls’ visit to Madejski Stadium

Reading vs Sheffield Wednesday
Saturday 23rd January 2016, 3pm
Sky Bet Championship
Madejski Stadium

After sticking five past our visitors Huddersfield in midweek, we’ll be hoping for the same kind of result when we host another Yorkshire outfit this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday – currently sixth in the Sky Bet Championship – are this Saturday’s guests at Madejski Stadium.  We’ve met once already this season, and the Owls stole a late equaliser despite a dominate Royals display at Hillsborough.

Wednesday didn’t have the smoothest start to the season, but have gone on to pick up some good form.  Three wins in their last three fixtures – the latest being a derby with Leeds – has propelled them into the play-off positions.

But it’s a chance for to claw back some points on the Owls – make sure you’re at Madejski Stadium as we look to record consecutive wins!

Stephen Martin is Saturday’s match referee – it’ll be his first visit to Madejski Stadium of the season, but he was in charge when we won 2-0 away at Bristol City back in September.  The previous game he oversaw involved Sheffield Wednesday, who were defeated 2-0 in Burnley.  He has shown four red cards and 57 yellows so far this season, across 22 games.

Ronald Ganfield and Robert Massey-Ellis are the two assistants for this fixture, while Dean Treleaven is going to be on duty as the fourth official.

We’re home favourites for the three points, according to the Football League title partner Sky Bet – 13/10 are the odds on a Royals win.  9/4 is the price of an Owls victory, and a draw is 21/10.

Matej Vydra, who netted three against the Terriers in midweek, is 9/4 to score at any time.  New arrival Yann Kermorgant, meanwhile, is 7/2 to score any time as part of a Reading win.
