Brand our beer and name our ale!

6 January 2016

We want your creative input…

In conjunction with club partner West Berkshire Brewery and official sponsor Waitrose, Reading Football Club are about to brew a beer!

The town of Reading has been famous for the three Bs of beer, bulbs and biscuits for centuries and the club formerly nicknamed the Biscuitmen are about to go back to the very beginning once more and pay homage to the history of the town by producing a Reading Football Club beer!

Our friends at the Yattendon-based brewery have offered to create a bespoke pale ale for the club and leading supermarket chain Waitrose have agreed, in principle, to stock it in their local stores, selling to supporters and the local community from early next year!

But before the malt has met the hops and well before the fermentation process can begin… we need a name.

So we’re asking our fans to help us brand our beer and come up with suggestions of what to name our new ale.

Of course, it has to be Royals-related!  Whether you want to hark back to the Elm Park era, our more recent promotions to the Premier League, key players or managers from the past, records we’ve broken, matches we’ve been involved in – or simply refer to our colours or our crest… it’s up to you!

A panel of Reading Football Club judges will come together to review the name suggestions that our fans have conjured up and pick the winning name next month – and one lucky winner who suggested the winning entry on social media or in an entry sent direct to the club via email or post, will win the opportunity to play a part in every element of the beer-making process.

One winning fan will be helping to shape the taste of the ale itself as well as design the labels you will see on the shelves of Waitrose and served up here at Madejski Stadium on matchdays!

So what can you hear yourself asking for at the bar?  “A pint of…”

How to enter
To put forward your suggestion of what to call our personalised ale, simply comment on the post on the club’s official Facebook site or you can tweet your suggestion by starting it with “I’d like a pint of…” and then adding in your ale name followed by the hashtag #NameOurAle

You can also email your entries to darathomas@readingfc.co.uk or send your suggestions to Dara Thomas, Reading Football Club, Madejski Stadium, J11, M4, Reading, RG2 0FL.  Entries must be with us by Friday 22nd January 2016 and entrants must be over the age of 18.
