Gilkesy takes a Health MOT at Nuffield!

13 January 2016

Academy coach gets a check-up with Wellbeing Partners

Reading Academy coach Michael Gilkes took advantage of a free health MOT at our Official Wellbeing Partner Nuffield Health last week…

Gilkes, who made over 400 appearances flying down the left wing for the Royals between 1984 and 1997, is still extremely active and out on the training pitch most days with our fledgling stars of the future – but there’s always room to make improvements!

Nuffield are our Official Wellbeing Partner – the partnership provides the first team and Academy players access to the facilities, including the gym and pool.  The centre also has a fully integrated health clinic.  They are based at 240 South Oak Way in Green Park – a short walk away from Madejski Stadium.

Royals coach Gilkes had an in-depth, one-hour health check – the health mentors measured his body mass index (BMI), resting heart rate, waist to hip ratio, cholesterol, aerobic fitness, blood pressure and sugar levels.  These indicators allow them to identify opportunities to improve overall health, and make suggestions on how to achieve positive fitness, diet and lifestyle changes.

Reading fans that want to kick off the 2016 in a healthy manner will be keen to know that Nuffield Health offer a 10% discount to Season Ticket holders at Madejski Stadium!  And by signing up for a 12-month membership by the end of January, you get February for FREE – that’s a £139 saving over the course of the year!
