Reading youngsters featured on Soccer AMSoccer AM paid a visit to Reading Football Club so that our Under-18 squad could partake in their latest episode of their Saturday morning feature, ‘Last Man Standing’!
The Royals are having a strong season in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League, and have progressed to round five of the FA Youth Cup after knocking out Sheffield United and Fulham – and they were looking to continue their hot form when they Sky cameras arrived!
Ryan East, Josh Barrett, Sam Smith and Tyler Frost were competing against each other for the title in the ‘Shooting from the D’ challenge. The four Royals were tasked in trying to beat goalkeeper Luke Southwood from just outside the area.
The first round of shots saw Smith progress, quickly followed by Barrett and then East, both firing fierce drives past their colleague between the posts. Frost’s effort was well saved by Southwood to set up a three-way knock-out.
A cool left footed finish from Smith booked his place in the final as Barrett saw his strike swerve wide of Southwood’s left hand post. East made great contact with his effort as it flew past the keeper into the top corner, eliminating Barrett and setting up a final with Smith (much to the delight of his teammates!)
With the pressure on and the cameras rolling, it could have gone either way… watch below to find out who claimed the crown of ‘Last Man Standing’!
