Vote for your Reading Goal of the Year 2015!

2 January 2016

Selection from our shortlist of 10…

We have been lucky enough to witness some spectacular goals across the past calendar year – and we want you to decide which goal Reading should submit to the Football League’s Mitre Goal of the Year award for 2015.

To make your nomination from our shortlist of 10, click here to go to the voting page now!

Each of the 72 clubs in the Football League will submit a nomination for a goal that has been scored in a Football League competition (Sky Bet Football League, Capital One Cup or Johnstone’s Paint Trophy).

Our nominated goal will then be entered in the Mitre Goal of the Year category at the Football League Awards 2016 held at Manchester Central – a judging panel will then review the goals with a selection being shown on Channel 5’s Football League Tonight Show.  Fans will be given the opportunity to vote for goals to make the final shortlist of five, with the overall winner being decided at the glittering Awards ceremony at Manchester Central on 17th April 2016.

So take a look at the nominations below, and click here to head to the voting page!

1 – Nathaniel Chalobah vs Sheffield Wednesday

Just 40 minutes into his home debut, on-loan attacker Chalobah steered in this fine half-volley to double the lead and complete the scoring against Sheffield Wednesday.

2 – Jamie Mackie vs Brighton & Hove Albion

The first of two fine goals from loanee striker Mackie; the Royals profited from a loose clearance, but a great run and a lashed finish from the forward was ruthless.

3 – Oliver Norwood vs Rotherham United

A patient piece of passing play from Reading was topped off with a fine long-range strike from Norwood, who cut the Royals’ deficit and gave hope of rescuing a point.

4 – Nick Blackman vs Brentford

Striker Blackman won a free-kick with a clever turn, and then stepped up to take it himself – the set-piece was inch-perfect and helped the Royals to their first win in 2015/16.

5 – Oliver Norwood vs Ipswich Town

On a night that had seen a remarkable Orlando Sa hat-trick and a stunner from Nick Blackman, this Norwood effort lit up Madejski Stadium to put the gloss on a 5-1 triumph.

6 – Garath McCleary vs Bristol City

A bright start from Reading saw them go 2-0 up within the opening quarter of an hour – the second was this lightning-fast move, finished from long range with a pinpoint drive from McCleary.

7 – Nick Blackman vs Rotherham United

Reading moved the ball from back to front in explosive style – a raking ball from Oliver Norwood was weighted perfectly for Blackman to control on his chest and lash in this opener.

8 – Nick Blackman vs Hull City

A team-goal befitting of the highest level: Garath McCleary made an incisive run before successive flicks from Matej Vydra and Oliver Norwood, and Blackman thundered in the leveller.

9 – Danny Williams vs Blackburn Rovers

The first Royals goal of Brian McDermott’s second tenure as Reading manager was this stunner from Williams – hammering in the game’s only strike from the most ludicrous of angles.

10 – Garath McCleary vs Brentford

After finding the Bees’ defensive line standing strong, McCleary and Matej Vydra played a quick give-and-go to unlock the door, allowing the former to slot in a well-worked equaliser.
