New signing can't wait to get started with the Royals

New signing Yann Kermorgant was pleased to put pen to paper on his one-and-a-half year deal with the Royals and is looking forward to a new challenge at Madejski Stadium.

“I got a phone call from the manager and my agent told me about the interest in me from Reading,” said Kermorgant. “I thought it would be a good opportunity for me, I wanted a new challenge. I’m really pleased to have signed and can’t wait to start for my new club.”

The French striker admitted he was drawn to the Royals because of the pedigree of the club and the quality he saw in the squad.

"I wanted to come to Reading because they are massive club in the Championship. They were in the Premier League a couple of years ago and that’s somewhere I know they want to get back to. There is a great squad here and we should maybe be higher in the league than we are right now with the squad we have."

The 34-year-old striker brings a wealth of Championship experience to the Royals, having scored 17 goals in his last two season’s in the Championship.

“I hope I can bring something different to the team for Reading," commented Kermorgant. “I know this club has some really good young players so hopefully I can pass my experience on to them and help them.“

Winning promotion with Bournemouth last season was a highlight in the striker’s career and it’s something he wants to repeat but this time with the Royals. The forward who was adored by the fans at Charlton and Bournemouth is hoping he can also win the fans over in a similar fashion at the Madejski

“Being at Bournemouth in the Premier League and to experience a bit of that was great, so I now want to help Reading push for promotion so we can experience the Premier League here again, promotion would be amazing, “said the Frenchman.

“The minimum I can do, and I always will, is to give my best out on the pitch and in training. I really respect the shirt, the fans and the club. I will do my best and if I can score goals and play well then I hope the fans will like me.”
