New signing Beerens on his Royals life so far

21 July 2016

Roy Beerens on settling in and the season ahead...

Roy Beerens is just one of the latest signings by manager Jaap Stam to be brought in ahead of the 2016/17 Championship season.

We’ve recently spoken to the Dutch winger on his thoughts about the club and how he has settled in so far with the Royals.

“I feel quite welcome and I’m happy so far”, said Beerens. “Hopefully we can start the season quite quickly and push on from there.

“Because of the trainers, I know the style of how they want to play, it makes it a lot easier. In Holland, Jaap Stam’s a big name and a trainer as well, so the choice to join Reading was not that difficult”.

Beerens also talked about his fitness levels and how he feels he is ready to part of the manager’s plans going into the season.

“I already trained for two weeks with Hertha Berlin so I’m quite fit. We train three times a day in Berlin so hopefully I can show it here.

“I’m a winger, left or right side it doesn’t matter. Stam wants to play 4-3-3 if it’s possibly so I think I will fit in”.

“I heard from the trainers, they said we play around 50 or 60 games or something like that. We will be prepared and I’m excited to do it.

Beerens is also aware of the competition that the squad provides but feels that it’s a positive to have to fight for places within the matchday squad.

“That’s how it is, you have to fight for your position in the first eleven and I will keep on fighting the whole year. Hopefully I can play a lot of games and show myself.

“We have to push each other up to reach the limit. Hopefully with my qualities I can push the limit of the team a little higher, so with any luck I can show something special.

“Hopefully I can make my first minutes on Saturday against AFC Wimbledon, which will be a good start for me I think.

“I heard from a lot of people that the atmosphere is great in England. I was happy in Germany, but I think the way to England now, it’s a good choice I made.”

Finally on the season ahead, like any confident player Beerens is positive that the Royals can further people’s expectations and surprise a few along the way.

“For me its difficult to say what the goal is for this season because I don’t know the league at the moment. But hopefully we can surprise a little bit in the cup or in the competition, we will see how it goes”.
