Craig Tanner is looking to level the scores with his former club on Saturday afternoon...Royals attacker Crag Tanner is looking forward to Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon where he will be facing one of his former clubs.
Tanner enjoyed a loan spell with the Dons in early 2015, and is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces when he returns on Saturday afternoon.
“I really enjoyed my loan at Wimbledon, Neal Ardley is a very good manager and I was very grateful that he gave me my first loan,” said Tanner
“My roommate who I was with during my time at Wimbledon Jake Reeves is still there and people like Dannie Bulman so it will be good to see some familiar faces on Saturday and I’m sure I will have a catch up with them before the game because it’s good to keep tabs of the lads.
Tanner’s more recent memories of Wimbledon however aren’t so pleasant however. The Royals youngster suffered defeat at the hands of Neal Ardley’s side in last season’s League Two Play-off final whilst on-loan with Plymouth Argyle.
For Tanner the defeat is still raw, with the striker looking for the chance to even things in the weekend’s pre-season meeting where he is hoping to get more minutes on the pitch.
“Obviously last season when I was at Plymouth we faced them (Wimbledon) in the League Two play-off final so I don’t really have fond memories of them at the moment,” reflected Tanner.
“My emotions are a bit torn about them at the moment, so hopefully I can get some emotional stability on Saturday.
“It doesn’t matter who we are playing,” Tanner continued. “Hopefully I can be in the squad maybe on the bench and take small steps at a time to try and get some minutes and take it a game at a time.”
