Academy product ready to meet the Royals

Goddard set to take on his Academy upbringing in pre-season

The Royals are set to take on near neighbours Swindon Town as part of our pre-season preparations for the 2016-17 season and they could come up against a former Academy graduate at the County Ground.

Just 41 miles separate the two sides and the fixture, scheduled for Tuesday 19th July, kick-off 7.45pm, is sure to be a popular one with both Robins and Royals fans.

Tickets for the game will cost just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (over-65s, students, Under-18s and disabled supporters) and we go on sale online, in person and over the phone with our Ticket Office from 9am on Monday 13th June.  Please note that this will be an all-ticket game for visiting supporters; Reading fans must purchase via our Ticket Office in advance.

And the fixture could see 22-year-old John Goddard play against his former side - Goddard signed for the Robins from Woking earlier this summer, having begun his playing days in the Royals' Academy.

Goddard began his coaching career within our Academy set-up at Under-9 level, and then continued his playing career with Woking when he signed for the Cards in September 2013. He scored 17 goals in 41 Vanarama National League appearances last season prompting a move for the midfielder to League One, signing a three-year deal with the Wiltshire-based side last month.

All the details of our full pre-season friendly schedule ahead of the 2016-17 season have now been released, with trips to Boreham Wood, Lincoln City and AFC Wimbledon coming ahead of a Madejski Stadium curtain-raiser against AFC Bournemouth.
