Barrett looking forward to getting the 2016/17 itinerary

Young midfielder gives a player’s insight to Fixture Release Day

With Fixture Release Day less than 24 hours away, Josh Barrett talked through his thoughts on next season and the excitement around receiving the new schedule.

For Barrett, who celebrates his 18th birthday today, it will be the first time he'll have had a vested interest in the first-team fixture-list on this all-important day - so he'll be waiting as impatiently as the rest of us for 9am on Wednesday morning to roll around!

“When the fixture list is published, we’ll have something to work towards throughout the remainder of pre-season and build for the opening game with the pre-season friendlies,” said Barrett.

“It’s exciting now, with all the clubs coming down from the Premier League and the opportunity to play at big stadiums like St James' Park, Carrow Road and Villa Park!  It’s exciting to see who we’ll get and when everyone else comes back we’ll be working towards that first game of the season.”

And it's that curtain-raiser in particular which is an exciting prospect - when we learn who our first opponents of the season are, Josh and the team can begin their prep to make sure they're ready to get out the blocks in August.

“Now is the time to push on and make sure you’re in the team for that opening match," he continued.  "It’s a big day for everybody, for the fans, the club and the players. We want to win that first game. I’m looking forward to it, whoever it is - and I’m sure it’ll be a good game!

“Usually I’m looking at who the Under-18s would have first, but now it’s even more exciting looking at the first-team fixtures and hopefully I can do enough to be in and around the first team and be involved on the first day.”
