FA call up Bavister for England win

2 June 2016

Daren on the mic at Wembley and on Wearside!

The Madejski Stadium PA announcer Daren Bavister put in a Wembley performance that earned him an England call-up last week.

Bavister was invited by the FA to be the voice of the Non-League Finals Day at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 22nd May.

And after witnessing Morpeth Town upset the odds to beat Hereford in the FA Vase and then Halifax Town oust promoted Grimsby Town to lift the FA Trophy later that same day - the first Non-League Finals Day held at the home of English football - Daren was promptly asked to take the mic for an England first team friendly against Australia in Sunderland.

From making announcements in front of in excess of 45,000 fans at Wembley, Bavister played his part in our nation's Euro 2016 preparations – readying a similar sized Stadium of Light crowd for a 2-1 win over Australia on Wearside.

In fact, Daren was the man who announced Marcus Rashford's historic opener - the Manchester United striker became the youngest player to score on his England debut at 18 years and 208 days.

"The Football Association were delighted to once again work with Daren at Friday evening’s fixture between England and Australia at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland," Events Manager for the FA, Tom Fehler said.

"Daren’s enthusiasm and upbeat nature on the mic was there to see for all of the 45,000 and more fans who attended the recent Non-League Finals Day at Wembley Stadium, and we were delighted to welcome him onto the international stage as Roy Hodgson’s men continued their preparation for Euro 2016.”
