Fixture Release: 2016/17 opens at home against Preston…

22 June 2016

A rundown of the schedule for our new campaign

Our 2016/17 campaign will begin at Madejski Stadium with a 3pm home tie against Preston North End on Saturday 6th August.

The Lilywhites were also our final home fixture of last season – and that ended in last-minute disappointment for Royals supporters as Daniel Johnson struck a late, late winner.  So our opportunity to exact revenge comes at the earliest opportunity… under the guidance of our new manager Jaap Stam, we’ll be aiming to make it a perfect start to the season!

We will learn our EFL Cup first round pairing at 1pm today when the draw is made live on Sky Sports – and they will be our second opponents in the midweek match that follows the opening weekend.

And then our first two road-trips in the Championship come at Wolves (Saturday 13th August) and Newcastle United (Wednesday 17th August).

Our three visits to London all come before Christmas – the first is on Tuesday 27th September as we make a midweek visit to Brentford, followed by a trip to QPR on Saturday 15th October and finally Fulham on Saturday 3rd December.

We’re due to be at home for our two festive fixtures – recently-relegated Norwich come to Madejski Stadium on Boxing Day, and then we meet Fulham for the second time in the space of four weeks when they travel to us on New Year’s Eve.  And then after a trip to Bristol City on Monday 2nd January, we will contest our FA Cup third round tie as we aim to add another memorable journey to our recent successes.

The Easter weekend sees us visit Aston Villa in the Midlands before hosting Rotherham on our patch.  And five of our Madejski Stadium fixtures across the calendar are due for 8pm midweek kick-offs - Birmingham, Aston Villa, Brentford, Newcastle and Blackburn.

And our final outing of the season sees us travel to Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, who under the tutelage of Nigel Clough fought their way to consecutive promotions to reach the second tier.  That fixture takes place at 12pm on Sunday 7th May.

We will be bringing you more news and articles about our fixture calendar for the new season over the coming days.  However in light of yesterday's news that our Academy Manager Eamonn Dolan passed away, our thoughts today will be concentrated on remembering his life.
