McDermott: “We want to get the momentum back”

Manager looks ahead to Cardiff clash

Reading take on Cardiff tomorrow afternoon back at Madejski Stadium and Brian McDermott’s team has been focused on the clash ever since the final whistle at Brighton on Tuesday night.

“We’ve trained Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and play tomorrow. The players are determined more than anything, we’ve got our own mini league to win now. We want to try and put in as many good performances as we can before the end of the season.

“We started preparing for Cardiff in the changing room straight after the Brighton game. I saw them play last week against Ipswich, they’re well drilled, they've got good organisation and they look good on set plays.”

“I like Russell Slade he’s a good manager, he did a really good job at Leyton Orient and is now doing a great job at Cardiff. It will be good to pit our wits against each other.”

The Reading manager highlighted the importance of the Royals getting a winning momentum back ahead of the international break, something he feels the team were working towards a few games ago.

“We want to get the momentum back - we were unbeaten in six games, we went to Huddersfield didn’t get the result, we were very unfortunate against Palace and then we played a top side in Brighton away from home. It’s been a difficult three games and now we’re looking forward to getting back home.

"It’s a funny time to have an international break when you consider how many games we have in April, but there’s nothing we can do, we’ll deal with it and go again afterwards."
