On-loan winger up for two divisional awards20-year-old winger Tariqe Fosu is certainly turning heads in Accrington – his recent form for loan club Stanley has resulted in nominations for both the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month and the PFA League 2 Player of the Month for April.
He has twice provided assists and bagged three goals for himself as Stanley have put promotion to League 1 within touching distance. Since Fosu’s arrival, they have won six, drawn two and lost none as they have clawed their way past Bristol Rovers and Oxford to second in the table.
“I’m over the moon to get the nominations,” Fosu told Accrington’s official website. “I wouldn’t be in the position to be nominated without the team because they’ve been great since I came in, as has the manager and the fans.
“It’s been easy for me to settle in and I think that has been the most important thing for me. The lads have been great.”
Fosu opens the scoring for Stanley in a 3-0 win against York
Of all of our outbound loan players who have a game remaining in the Football League, undoubtedly the biggest single fixture is Accrington’s home tie with Stevenage.
Win, and they’re up – it’s as simple as that. And for Fosu, who has forced himself into the reckoning in a highly competitive division, hopes that a week which has seen him draw personal acclaim can end with something to celebrate with the rest of the Accrington team.
“I knew it would be hard to get into the team when I came in but I just thought I’d get my head down and every time I got a chance try to prove myself,” he continued. “It’s gone my way so far so I’m delighted.
“It’s helped that the team has been doing so well. There are positive vibes around the ground, the team play great football and that’s helped too as it suits me.
“It’s a crazy week. It’s probably going to be one of the most important games I’ll play in my life this weekend so I’m looking forward to it. I’m a bit speechless really.”
