On-loan winger wins monthly gong with AccringtonWe’re delighted to confirm that winger Tariqe Fosu has been named as Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month for April, after making a telling contribution in recent weeks for his loan club Accrington Stanley.
Since Fosu’s arrival, the Lancashire side have won five of their seven fixtures, drawing two and losing none, and now stand on the brink of reaching football’s third tier for the first time since 1960!
April started in a positive manner for the Royals loanee – an equalising goal on his home debut for Stanley earned the club a point from their meeting at the Crown Ground with Cambridge. As well as contributing a couple of assists, he also added two more goals to his tally during the month – including a winner away at Hartlepool.
An impressive month – both individually for Tariqe and collectively for Accrington – has sent them second in the table heading into the final weekend. So it’ll be a wonderful May for Stanley if they can defeat Stevenage tomorrow and hold off the challenge of promotion-chasers Bristol Rovers and Oxford!
Tariqe had some stern competition for the monthly crown. Also in the running for the Player of the Month award were Barnet striker John Akinde – whose six goals in as many games took his tally to 22 for the campaign – and Wimbledon forward Lyle Taylor, who also netted half a dozen to help the Dons into a play-off berth.
The fourth nominee for the Player of the Month award was Stevenage full-back Fraser Franks, whose defensive capabilities helped the Boro to five clean sheets in seven fixtures throughout April. And tomorrow Tariqe and his teammates will be hoping to get the better of Franks and the Stevenage side once more...
Congratulations to Tariqe on winning this award, and we wish to pass our very best wishes to Accrington for their final game of the season this Saturday.
