Reading keeper Ali Al-Habsi is up for the Championship player of the Month award...Royals stopper Ali Al-Habsi has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship player of the month award for October! The Reading keeper has enjoyed an outstanding month between the sticks for the club, pulling off a number of fine saves.
Ali has enjoyed three consecutive clean-sheets in our last three league matches, and during that time also put in a fabulous display at the Emirates, making a number of top stops on the night.
There have been a few stand-out moments for the Omani international this month, among which was a save from point blank range to deny French international Olivier Giroud in the EFL Cup in North London.
Other memorable stops from the 34-year-old this month included a brilliant reaction save in Rotherham to deny Richard Wood and a top drawer double save against Nottingham Forest at Madejski Stadium.
Al-Habsi will be up against three other candidates for the award this month. Fulham’s Sone Aluko has enjoyed a productive October scoring an impressive solo effort against Barnsley, and then had a hat-trick of assists in a memorable display against Huddersfield.
Lewis Dunk of Brighton has had a solid month at to hear of the Sea Gull’s defence who have conceded just three goals in five games. He also netted with a towering header against Norwich and set up the winner at Sheffield Wednesday.
Newcastle’s number ‘9’ Dwight Gale has been prolific for his side over the last month scoring four goals from four in October. He showcased his speed, direct running and finishing prowess as he bagged two apiece against Brentford and Barnsley.
The winners are due to be announced on Friday, but regardless of whether Ali gets the silverware all, Royals will be grateful for the impressive contribution he has made over the last month.
