Brian on his role, the gaffer, and Royal ambition

17 November 2016

A second snippet from our Technical Director

Earlier this week we brought you some words from our Technical Director Brian Tevreden on his route to Reading, the recruitment process and a long-term project with the Royals.

And now we switch attention to his role with the club and his colleagues, bringing in the manager Jaap Stam, and ambitions.

You can also watch the interview in full at the top of this article – just click ‘play’.

Brian on… his job and his colleagues
My job covers everything on the football side.  That’s recruitment, buying and selling players, helping the Academy with Lee Herron.

I work with Nigel Howe on a daily basis – we’re often on the phone and he’ll come to see me at the training ground or my office at the stadium, as well as my assistant Tao.  We work very closely with the Academy Manager Lee Herron, the recruitment staff, and the owners as well.

Brian on… bringing in Jaap Stam
Jaap went straight into my head as my number one.  I think it was a good thing – I believed in him and we brought him in.  Until now, everybody is very happy.

We had a clear plan.  He is the same type of person that I am – ambitious, creative, and flexible.  I think for him that was the main thing – he’s hungry and ambitious.

Brian on… ambition
Everyone wants to go to the promised land.  We have a long-term project and of course we want to be promoted this season.  But you have to be realistic.  For now we are doing very well.

If I am in the stands watching the game, I am very proud and happy.  Even the fans who get behind the team give me a good feeling – compliments to the fans.
