Date confirmed for Manchester City Youth Cup clash!

23 November 2016

U18s to host Citizens on the 15th of December...

The Royals will host Manchester City in the third round of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday the 15th of December at Madejski Stadium, as David Dodd’s side look to progress to the next round of the prestigious tournament.

Ticket information for the 7pm kick off will be released in due course as the U18s look for a similar run in the competition to last year that saw the Royals reach the quarter finals of the tournament, losing out in a close encounter to eventual winners Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Last season’s third round tie in Berkshire saw Reading host Sheffield United in an enthralling midweek tie under the lights. After falling behind to a goal early in the second half, Gabriel Osho’s 91st minute header levelled the scores and took the game to extra time.

Reading found the decisive blows when Josh Barrett converted a penalty in the 113th minute before Danny Loader put the result beyond doubt in the last minute of extra time.

Manchester City should be stout opponents for Dodds’ team with both sides going well in the U18 Premier League in their respective regional leagues. City sit top of the Northern Premier League with the Royals in third place in the Southern division just three points off league leaders Chelsea.

Everything looks to be set up for what should be a tasty encounter at Madejski Stadium as the two top academies go head to head for a place in round four.
